What are the Entry Requirements?

To study Additional Science you will need Grades ranging from A*-B in Science from Year 10 GCSE Core Science. You will also need the motivation and self-initiative to succeed in Additional Science and achieve your full potential by obtaining Grades A*-B at the end of Year 11 so you can be eligible to study A-Level Sciences at the Grange Technology College.

The exams for Additional Science are structured questions which require written answers with detailed explanations. You need to be good at managing your own time and be proud of your achievements. Give credit where credit is due. If you are struggling with a subject or a topic area, tell your teacher! They can help you! And remember practice makes perfect!
How will I be Assessed?

AQA GCSE Additional Science is a structured course and the exams are based on the topics you study in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. It is a ‘written answer’ exam on each of the six units. Each of the sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) is worth 25% of the marks. There is an opportunity to do internally assessed coursework (ISA and PSA) also worth 25% of the total marks. Through practical work there are lots of opportunities to develop your practical skills with particular regard to health and safety.

Future Opportunities?

There may be opportunities to visit Higher Education Institutions such as Bradford or Leeds University to gain a further understanding of Science and how it is related to real life scenarios.

You will need to be successful in achieving those vital A* - B grades in Year 10 AQA GCSE Core Science and Year 11 GCSE AQA Additional Science before you can study AS-Level and A2-Level Science at Grange Technology College. GCSE Science is important and is a requirement for many other Science related careers e.g. Nursing, Dietician, Optician, Pharmacist, Environmental Scientist, Forensic Scientist and many others. If you’re thinking about getting a job, many employers also ask for a minimum of Grade C in Science as a requirement. Science is useful in all areas. Work Hard and the results will follow!
