Description

The course provides you with a detailed knowledge of book-keeping and accountancy.

The ‘AS’ Level forms the first year of a full ‘A’ Level in accounting and is delivered in modular format.

What will I Learn?

During the first year you study for an ‘AS’ Level in accounting and take two modules as follows:

  • Module 1 – Introduction to Financial Accounting
  • Module 2 – Financial and Management Accounting

Both modules are examined in June. If you complete the first two modules you will be awarded an ‘AS’ Level in Accounting.

During the second year you study two modules as follows to gain a full ‘A’ Level, these are:

  • Module 3 – Further Aspects of Financial Accounting
  • Module 4 – Further Aspects of Management Accounting

Module 3 is examined in January and module 4 is examined in June.

If you complete all four modules you are awarded the full ‘A’ Level in Accounting.

You need to be aware that although Accounting is a mathematical subject there is a considerable amount of written work (particularly in the second year) and you will be required to analyse and interpret accounting information, therefore you need to be methodical and tidy in your presentation. You will be expected to buy the recommended text book and bring it to class and you will be expected to complete homework each week.

What are the Entry Requirements?

Full-time: For AS Accounting students need GCSE English grade C (higher-tier) & Maths grade B or above, plus four further GCSEs at grade C or above. Full details of our entry requirements can be found here

Part-time: We discuss with you whether your previous experience and qualifications are likely to enable you to succeed on the course. Mature students with relevant experience may be exempt from some entry requirements.

Future Opportunities?

After successfully completing the full ‘A’ Level you can progress onto professional accounting courses subject to the awarding body entry requirements.
