Overview
As a 3D design student you will be embarking on an exciting career in a wide range of disciplines. Although the course has a focus on Interior Design you will explore all the design methodologies, which will enable you to design exhibitions, furniture, products and transport. You will be required to be creative, innovative, imaginative, practical, enthusiastic, motivated and have a strong interest in current design trends. You will learn many new skills to enable you to put your ideas into practise. These will include drawing, exploring a wide variety of media, investigating different materials and how they will be used and computer programmes including Photoshop and ArchiCAD.
What will I Learn?
Project briefs supported through demonstrations, tutorials and experience of the 'real world'.
The 18 course Units will be assessed through work produced for projects.
Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and Information Communication Technology.
What are the Entry Requirements?
Age at entry 16+
BTEC First Diploma/GNVQ Intermediate in Art and Design or 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above (preferably one of the GCSEs should be an art, media or design-related subject)
A portfolio of art, media or design related-work which should include examples of drawing from real life.
You will be interviewed by a specialist tutor and will be required to provide a satisfactory reference.
The 3D Design and Interior Design industries expect you to be creative and enthusiastic.
To succeed you should be aware of current trends in 3D Design and Interior Design.
How will I be Assessed?
You will have the opportunity to:
Take part in course trips
Visit galleries and exhibitions
Work on 'live projects'
Use digital photography
Future Opportunities?
The qualification can lead to courses in Higher Education, for example Degrees or HND courses in any area of 3D Design. Career opportunities may include: Interior Designer, Architect, Exhibition, Museum, Furniture, Product, Transport, Theatre or TV Set Designer.
