Overview
The first year of the course gains students an AS qualification in Accounting and covers the introduction to financial and management accounting. In the second year of the course students study for the A2 qualification and look at further aspects of financial and management accounting.
What will I Learn?

In the first year of the course you will learn how to complete accounts from the initial transaction taking place right through to producing the final accounts.  You will also learn how to deal with amendments to accounts, including how to deal with depreciation of assets.  In the management account section of the course you will learn how to assess business performance using accounting ratios and prepare cash budgets.

In the second year of the course you will learn to deal with more complex financial accounts including partnerships, manufacturing, limited companies and how to deal with incomplete records.  You will develop the use of management accounting techniques and this will help you make judgements and comparisons about different companies.

What are the Entry Requirements?

The entry requirements are a grade C, preferably a grade B, or above in Mathematics and/or Statistics.  You need to be eligible to attend Queensbury School Post 16. You will need to pass the AS Level at grades A-E to continue onto the A2 in Year 13.

How will I be Assessed?

Assessment is through an examination in each of the two units:

4. Further Aspects of Financial Accounting

5. Further aspects of management Accounting

All examinations have equal weighting. Examination sessions are January and May/June in each year.

Future Opportunities?

Students who have studied Accounting at AS and/or A2 have gone on to study Accounting, Business, Law, Management, Hospitality, Mathematics, Animation and IT at University.  Other students have found employment within accounting, management, and the financial services sector.  Students have also used the knowledge gained on the course to help them to start their own businesses.
