The FAQ's are here to answer the most common questions about the Prospectus and how to use it. As more questions come in, we'll incorporate them into this section, but in the meantime, if you have a question which isn't answered here, please submit it using the Contact button above. We'll answer your question personally, and if possible, include it here as well.
Finding what I want
How do I find a course?
There are different ways to find a course. Probably the easiest way is to click on the button across the top of the button for courses for your age group. This allows you to search in different ways.
You can search by choosing the Provider of the courses that you want to look for. You can search for a type of course or a level - or a combination of these. You can also search by a Keyword. If your word does not show you any courses, try and think of a another word which might be related to what you are wanting to do. eg. you might have searched for 'mechanic' and not found anything but then try 'motor'.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Can anyone check up on what courses or providers I've been looking at?
No, absolutely not, even if you save a course to your "bookmarks" only you can see it. The only reason we take an email address is so that we can re-send you lost or forgotten passwords.
Will you use my details in any other way?
Again no, the information you provide is only used to offer you support for the Prospectus
Online applications
Who can I apply online?
Only year 11s can apply online and this will be when your school has issued you with your user name and password. This feature is called the Common Application Process, or CAP for short.
What do I need to do?
Logins
- Firstly you login in with the details given to you at school and then you
- change your password (sometimes you are asked to do this straight away and sometimes you have to click on My Account first)
- then you set up a Password Recovery Question in case you forget your password
- you can also email your password to yourself or save it on your phone in case you forget - but do not save your user name in the same place as your password.
Bookmarks
- Once you updated your login you start looking for courses and 'bookmarking' them as possible choices. It is like a shortlist of things you might consider. You might want to talk about your list with someone else. You need to know that it is the right course for you at the right level.
- to bookmark the course, you read all about it and then click on Bookmark to Apply at the bottom of the page
- if you click on My Bookmarks you can see all the things you have saved so far.
- you can only apply for things that you have bookmarked, but you can have things on your list that you don't actually apply for in the end.
Application form
The application form can be found under My Profile. There are seven boxes to click on. You need to add information in six of them. The last box called View My Profile shows you the whole application form and you can print that off if you want. You MUST complete all the boxes.

Referees
-
you need to ask your teachers who you should put down as a referee. You will need to add their email address so that the provider receiving you application can ask them for a reference if they want to have one
-
if you have been having any particular support in school to help you in the classroom then it is a good idea to add the details of the person helping you so that if you move to a new school or college, the staff can talk to them and arrange for the same kind of support to continue

Making an Appplication
You can apply for things at any time during the year, even after results day. However, some courses may get full so if you know what you want to do it is best to apply as soon as you can. If you are staying on in your own school sixth form then your school will tell you when to apply.
-
How to Apply
- you cannot send off an application until you have bookmarked all the things you want to apply for and also fully completed the application form.
- you click on Make an Application. You will see that all your bookmarks have been put into groups so that all the ones at the same place are together.
- if you want to apply for two full time courses at the same place, you will need to send two applications. If you are doing A/S levels then you wil need to apply for four A/S (and in some cases five) in one application and put them in order of preference by using the arrow buttons. If the timetable at the school you are applying would not let you do your choices, at least people will know what your favourite courses are.
- you can send off as many applications as you want but two is a sensible number - one to your first choice and then another as a back-up plan in case you do not get a place on your first choice
- when you click on Send the application automatically links with your application form. If you think you want to talk to someone first, before sending, save it as a draft.
-
- How to see a reply to your application
- you need to keep logging on to the website to see if any provider has replied to you application
- if you look at My Applications you will see a list of what you have applied for and in the Status column it will tell you what the providers response is. If it says With Provider it means they haven't done anything with it yet. But if there is a green tick in the Ack'd column (which means Acknowledged) at least you will know they have received it.
- they may have added a note to give you more information or ask questions about your application. When you are looking at the application you can see a tab which says Application Note
- when you have looked at the information from the provider, it maybe something you need to reply to by adding a note back. Or it maybe an offer and you can click to Accept the offer or to Reject the offer.
- if you send an application off and then change your mind or you did it wrong, then you can open your application an click on Withdraw . You can send a new application without re-doing your form. You just need to save to bookmarks the courses you are going to apply to and then click Make an Application.
Are all Schools, Colleges and Work-Based Learning Providers in Bradford & District listed on the Prospectus?
Provided they offer courses leading to qualifications, yes they should be. However, sometimes they may have missed a course by mistake. If you think they have, please use the Contact button to find out. Do take note that courses can constantly be changing as and when providers decide to add new ones!
I’m looking for a specific Provider based outside of Bradford & District, and I can’t find them listed, why?
Not all Learning Providers and Colleges outside of our district are listed in the prospectus. They may be listed in the area prospectus where they are located. For more information on out of area provision, please go to our “Links” page.
Note that some work-based learning providers may have their Head Office out of Bradford, but the learning still happens in the workplace in Bradford.
